Artist's Comments

Millennia ago the Minovians evolved from a spec of dust. I know for I was lucky enough to have a friend who inherited a journal from her great, great grandmother which detailed the life of one member of this strange and beautiful civilization. Though it is unknown how this came to be in her ancestors hands, my friend read it. And then thinking it might be of some interest to me, she mailed it on over and I took a look at it.

Though it seems Minovians were made of dust, dirt, and rock, rather than being heavy and clumsy, they were an elegant and graceful people. And they loved flowers. In the journal there were several descriptions of items that were used in their daily lives.

What you see here is a reproduction of a keepsake box that one of the Minovian children made. The original was made out of wood from a native tree called n'vowin, which bloomed only in winter. After making a hole in the top of the box, the top was then decorated with cachi paper, colored by using the berries of the bufle bush, and attached with thin strands of pink uturium, gaccia beads, and a glue like substance called vicca. The bottom half of the box was also decorated, this one with a flower made of purple uturium and strands of both pink and purple uturium wound around it and secured with vicca.

This is entered in :iconwireworkersanonymous:'s Extraterrestrial contest.

The box was actually turned on a lathe by my dad and I did an acrylic wash on it, as well as the chalking of the paper flowers and the wirework. :)
